The Hungary immigration office (NDGAP) grants three types of settlement permits to foreigners based on habitual residence.
- The National residence card (10 years) – After 3 years of living without interruption
- Interim Residence Card (10 years) – Holders an EU long-term residence permit issued on the basis of Council Directive 2003/109/EC and wishes to reside in Hungary for one of the following purposes: ·for employment or business purposes (except seasonal employment), or ·to pursue studies or vocational training, or ·for other certified purposes.
- EC permanent residence (10 years indefinite) – After 5 years of continuous living without absence.
Cultural Exam – Applications for a national residence card or an EU residence card submitted on 1 January 2025 and afterwards, are required to pass Hungarian cultural knowledge exam.
